I definitely understand the raisin bread now

TheAudioGuy responds:

Good to hear, mockoff! :)

Not too much is going on in this song to make it interesting but its so short it doesn't really give it much time to become interesting. Its a tad odd to introduce that horn-like instrument near the end just to have it cut off back into the loop. Maybe extend the song a bit and a horn type bridge to the song?

Tonio responds:

thanks for your review!

This is really chill and I especially like the bells and stuff. It gives off a great atmosphere. Kind of feel like the dub-elements of the song brings down the quality and takes away the atmosphere. Although in a way it gives off a futuristic robotic feel, so its not all bad. The piano is an especial highlight for me.

Maybe its just a personal music preference for me, but I'd personally like the song better if you got rid of the dub-bass and got a deeper bass as more of a drone to highlight the atmosphere the rest of the song is going towards. With that said, I know this is a dubstep song so I shouldn't complain about dub-elements. Even though I'm not big on dub, I did enjoy this quite a bit.

The end was the most abrupt thing ever but its a WIP so I figure you'll fix that after you finish the song.

EctiBot responds:

Thx for the great review :).
Dubstep is a genre that not everyone likes, so I fully understnd that you didn't like the dub-elements. I like to please as many people as possible, so I might upload a "clean" version of this without the dubs.
I'm glad you enjoyed it regardless. And yea, I know that the ending is abrupt. It's still a WIP.
Thx again for the review :). I'll make sure to upload chill music that isn't dubstep in the future, so look out after that ;).

I like the intro. Reminds me of an opening to a movie or video game but then that synth comes in and I just was a big fan of it. The synth sounds a bit too 80/90s cheesy for me but that may just be personal preference. I kind of wish the rest of the song would have stayed like it did in the beginning. Feels like the two vibes from the intro/outro and the middle are too different in what they're trying to accomplish.

I like the quiet part that comes in around the 1:45ish mark. It adds a nice calm part to the song and is reminiscent of the intro. Good way to end it.

JoshuaHughes responds:

Thanks for the review, man! I've been thinking about working on this piece some more and I thought I could use a little more insight.

the airy beginning reminds me of some old school video games. Once the bass and other stuff comes in it sounds good, but the stop-start rhythm feels a bit odd, at least being used as often as you do it. I think it'd work a lot better in moderation. As it is I feel like it just breaks up the entire flow, or feeling, of the song.
I really like the minimal bass playing. Simple. but its very effective here. Volume panning of the pads are a nice touch to the atmosphere too.
Ending was nice and added some good variety. Song feels like it went by a lot faster than its length. Didn't really feel like it established a definite mood for me though, but besides that it was pretty enjoyable.

MANUEMMAN responds:

Thank's a lot. I really appreciate your comment!

I like the panning of the high pitched instrument. I feel like the drums get a bit too loud around the minute mark and its fighting with the piano to be loudest, although that may be intentional. Song does feel very video game-esque throughout. The overly loud drums are a problem for me though...
The composition is pretty nice, transitions are a bit rough but they work. After listening to the song twice, the intro really throws you for a loop cause the song seems like its gonna be much more chill rather than in your face with the slow panning and whatnot.

Chemiqals responds:

Thanks for the feedback! Being the first DnB song I've ever made, I definitely wanted the drums to stand out. I might have overdone the bass on them a bit, haha! I did want the intro to build slowly so that the climax of the song would be in stark contrast to it. =P

Thanks again! I really appreciate the feedback!

I agree that it does sound like you're using a lot of reverb which I don't think fits too well in this particular style. I like the notes that wobbly bass is playing, but i think the actual sound/instrument of it is a tad overplayed in this genre. It just feels like I've heard that sound so many times before, ya know?
I like the actual composition though and it kept my interest throughout. Just try experimenting with the soundscape a bit?

Sundans responds:

Haha, I can see what you mean. Mord Fustang used that wobble in quite a few of his tracks in 2011. XD I just really liked the sound, so I decided to make my own Fustang wobble (I know he didn't actually invent square-saw wobble, but still). I'll see what I can do about changing up a few of the wobbles, but no promises. :D Thank you for the feedback, it is much appreciated!

Might be something with the mixing but the strings don't really sound full. Feels like theres some empty space in the song. The actual composition is pretty cool. Reminds me a bit of old JRPGs, although the choir ahhs sound a bit odd. Again, I think that has to do with the mixing and not so much the composition. They just sound flat, or static rather.

Not a fan of the ending, I feel like the song was just getting started. It had a lot of tension going on and it just ended so abruptly. Feels like something even bigger needs to come up after.
It was nice work though.

dudur responds:

thanks,
i ll consider making it longer.
unfortunately i cannot afford a good vst for choirs/drums.i was not able to find a good cheap/free one online :(

Really nice and dreamy. I like your bass, its nice and fat. The intro kind of reminded me of something I'd see in a japanese rpg like Persona or something. Its only a preview so its hard to judge much with the abruptness that it ends at and everything, but this is a really good start. Its nice and chill. Thought it was starting to get repetitive before it ended, but you add a piano to the left speaker so its not a big problem and in this genre repetition works well.

alanisnotcool responds:

Thanks buddy for the valuable feedback =)

I like the bass placement in this song. The guitar sounds kind of funky, but in a good way until the distortion comes in. Sounds a bit too dirty for my tastes.
Not a big fan of the drums, the rhythm on them just feels kind of disjointed which is a shame cause i really enjoy the composing for the other instruments. The high pitched instrument that comes in around the 2 minute mark and does the stereo panning feels a bit random at times though.

I feel like the drums bring the song down an otherwise well composed song. If you re-did the drums I think I'd like the song a good bit better.

Blacklawn responds:

You think they're disjointed? wow, they're the most normal drums I've made :/
